The following pieces are a sample of the work I completed while attending the School of Interactive Arts (SIAT).

INSTALLATION ART

Waltz of the Puppets
credits: shannon tse, john wong, shenyan liu

Description

A performative installation with a twist. Waltz of the Puppets shifted the passive user experience of watching to that of direct participant. The user was harnessed directly into the performance and confronted with a video montage dealing with issues of control and trust in relation to 4 major world institutions: Government, Military, Religion and Media. By including the user in such a fashion not only did they get a visceral feel for the piece, but it gave them the choice to give in or resist the performance around them. This coincided perfectly with the thematical topics of choice and control.

Poetry in Motion
credits: shannon tse, j y lum, wendy huang

Description

This installation was an attempt to demonstrate the 'poetry' that is present in our actions and those of others. Users who participated in the piece would wear a solid colored jacket that was calibrated to a video camera fixed on the users. A program would anaylze the video feed and translate it into an abstracted pattern of color. These forms were then projected back onto a piece of cloth so the user could receive feedback on the changes they were making. As they explored the space, accompanying abmient sounds would also shift to the movements of the users. They were given the objective to try and discover how to create a solid tone with the sounds...little did they know this only happens when they are as close together as possible.
